The Velebit Botanical Garden has recently been restored and it is the only alpine botanical garden in Croatia. The botanical garden was created by a botanist called Dr Fran Kusan in 1967 and it is only clear from snow for a few months a year. The garden contains around five hundred plants that are native to Velebit. The garden became neglected after the founder’s death and has been restored by the faculty of science at the University of Zagreb.
