The Abyss of Pazin is linked to Jules Verne who mentioned the cave in his book Mathias Sandaf. You access the abyss through a semicircular cave called Dante’s lobby. The Pazincica River runs through the abyss in an underground tunnel. The abyss is protected now and has a couple of legends attached to it. This karst cave has a wide variety of vegetation growing around it including the rare Martagon lily and Istrian hellebane.
