The archaeological complex of Salona and Tusculum is located six kilometres away from Split, the site is a former Roman capital of Dalmatia. The site was a coastal stronghold and was granted the status of being a roman colony in 48 BC. The town was in the shape of a trapezium and had some fortifications and walls surrounding it. The eastern section of these walls is still preserved today. Ruins have been found of a luxury villa close to the town and private and public thermae.
