Marshal Malmont began collecting stone monuments in the Temple of Augustus in 1802 and this lead to the creation of the Pula Municipal Museum. The Pula Archaeological Museum was first opened in 1930. On the ground floor of the museum are a collection of stone monuments, on the first floor is an exhibition of prehistory and on the second floor is the classical exhibition. The medieval collection includes an ivory case that is decorated with Dionysian scenes.
