The city walls in Novigrad once surrounded the town in the thirteenth century after the fall of Novigrad to Venice. It is thought that these walls stood upon earlier Late Antique fortifications. Initially the walls were low but were improved upon into locally cut quarry stone with battlements. Adjacent to the former city gate stands a square tower, the round towers are Renaissance. Parts of the wall were restored recently along Brolo Park and Prolaz Venecija.
