The Ethnographic Museum of Istria was founded in 1962 within a medieval castle. The castle was first mentioned in 983 and has been used as a centre for the government in the past. The museum contains around 4200 items of ethnological value. There is a blacksmiths and carpenters workshop, and displays of traditional clothing. The castle kitchen demonstrates Istria cooking and the utensils used during the nineteenth century. There is a large pottery exhibition containing over 800 items.
