Founded in 1954, the museum occupies a nineteenth century Neo-Renaissance building. Some of the first art pieces displayed by the museum were donated by citizens. The gallery of fine arts contains three centuries of art works, some of these works are created by foreign painters and others from the Osijek painting circle. There are classical pictures in the style of Biedermeier, realism and Romanticism. The gallery also contains some sculptures that are mainly portraits.
