Giardini Park was designed in the late nineteenth century underneath the old castle. It later became a marketplace and hackberry trees were planted to offer shade to Pula citizens and visitors. The cafes extend under the trees so you can enjoy a cool drink. The streetcars run alongside the Giardini. The City museum and Triumphal Arch of the Sergi are close by. This park has featured heavily in local events. Another interesting tree is the firethorn hedge which runs along beside the old city walls of the castle.
