The Jankovac Lakes are named after the earl, Josip Jankovic, who owned numerous properties in this area. He decided in the mid nineteenth century to decorate a valley close to Papuk Mountain. He built some small castles and created two lakes for growing trout. He was buried in a cave above a lake in his valley. There is a sarcophagus dedicated to the earl with an inscription written in Hungarian and the old Churc-Slavic languages. There is another cave close by dedicated to a local bandit.
