The Karlovac Town Museum was founded in 1904 and it moved into its present location into a baroque town palace, built by Vuk Krsto Frankopan during the seventeenth century, in 1996. The main part of the permanent exhibit is dedicated to the history of the town. The archaeological department has the largest collection of idols from the Illyrian shrine near Topusko. The ethnographic section has an interesting display of rain capes made from forest grass and in the cultural section is a medieval sword that dates from around the eleventh century.
