Lopud Monastery is in a prominent position on the northern side of the island. The monastery is fortified and stands above the quay that the Franciscan monks built with the aid of the local merchants in 1483. The monastery’s Church of Our Lady of the Rocks contains a number of alter paintings and a notable carved screen.
