The Lungomare or seaside promenade runs from Preluka to Lovran for twelve kilometres via Opatija. The path was started in 1888 and took until 1911 to complete because of problems with land disputes. The path was constructed to encourage people to use walking to improve their health and it also passes some places of historical importance. The Carmen Slyva Promenade runs parallel to the Lungomare.
