The feudal town of Medvedgrad was built in the thirteenth century on the hill of Mali Pluzar to protect the country from attack from the Tatars. The fortress was decorated and fortified strongly in case of use by the King as a sanctuary including a cistern and chapel. The town was abandoned in 1590 and has not been renovated since. Several parts of the town have recently been reconstructed and there is a sculpture dedicated to the Homeland War by the sculptor Kuzma Kovačić.
