Medvednica Nature Park was founded in 1981 and has forest covering it by 64%. There is a monument of geological importance called the Veternica Cave that contains a number of cave ornaments and interesting fossils. The park contains several cultural monuments including Medvedgrad fortress and a former sanatorium called Brestovac. There is a mine open to the public: Zrinski Mine, 110 kilometres of cycling trails and 4 educational paths. The park runs an adopt a bat programme.
