Mljet National Park includes the island of Mljet in the Adriatic Sea. The island was mentioned in the Odyssey stories and was lived on by the Benedictines. The island used to be inhabited by the Mediterranean Grey Seal and the park’s authority is trying to reintroduce the mammal. There are also remains of a Mediterranean primeval forest. Many of the inhabitants still wear the national costume, and in Polace there are remains of Roman buildings.
