The museum of Slavonia is one of the oldest in Croatia. It was established in 1877 through the donations of an Osijek collector Franjo Sedlakovic. The museum moved to its current location in 1946 at the Tvrdja which was built in 1702. The museum has nine departments: ethnographic, numismatic, natural sciences, technical, artistic crafts, history, archaeology and the library. The Native collection contains every printed document relating to Osijek since 1903.
