Rijeka’s natural history museum was the first to be established in the region and was founded around the year 1876. There is an aquarium with a multimedia centre with displays of underwater photography and interactive movies of over 300 species of flora and fauna. There is also a botanical garden that contains 100 species from the local region. The museum has displays about the geology of the Adriatic and the Rijeka region as well as a collection about the stratification of the Island of Krk.
