The Roman palace dates from the fifth century and gave the village its name of Polace from the palace. The remains of the walls are one of the largest Roman buildings in Dalmatia. These include two basilicas and the arsenal. Underwater are the remains of a shipyard. The village is a popular destination for sailors because of its sheltered position.
