The aquarium in Pula is located within the Austro Hungarian fortress Verudela which dates from 1886. There are roughly fifty pools containing sea turtles, both tropical and saltwater fish, and sea organisms. You can also see within the aquarium endemic species native to Croatia and an exhibition dedicated to the fortress that the aquarium is situated within. There is also a marine turtle rescue centre which is the only one in Croatia.
