The Risnjak National Park was founded in 1953 at the suggestion of a botanist called Professor Ivo Horat. The park is mainly wooded and contains many karstic features such as sinkhole’s and caves. The River Kupa has its source here and at this point is an important hydrological feature of a deep hollow pond that extends 86 metres deep. The park is named after the lynx which used to be found here and has recently been reintroduced.
