The Benedictine Abbey of St. Nicholas in Susak dates from the eleventh century. Inside is a large crucifix that dates from the twelfth century. It is known as the Great God by the local inhabitants. The crucifix is said to have been found drifted ashore by the Benedictines and was placed in the church. Apparently it is impossible to try to remove the said crucifix from the church.
