The cave is named after St Romuald who lived here between 1001-1004, he was a hermit and used to be part of the Benedictine monk order. The cave is 105 metres deep and bones have been found consisting of over 40 different species of animal. These animals would have been prey of the prehistoric people who lived here once. Only one side of the cave is decorated, a mystery to historians and archaeologists.
