The Church of St Vitus is now Rijeka’s cathedral but was formerly a Jesuit Church that once had a legend attached to it regarding a bleeding miraculous Crucifix in 1296. Inside the church is decorated in the Baroque style with notable Baroque sculptures by masters such as Pacassi and Lazzarini.
The church resembles that of Santa Maria Della Salute in Venice with its 1638 rotunda. St Vitus is the remnants of a large Jesuit complex that once included a college. A permanent exhibition of the Jesuit site can be viewed by appointment.
