Stari Grad’s Dominican monastery dates from the fifteenth century and is partially fortified with a turret after an attack on the monastery in 1571 by Uluz Ali. The monastery contains an archaeological museum that holds a large collection of Greek grave stones and Creto-Venetian icons. A notable painting within the museum is called Tintorettos and a large wooden crucifix dating from sixteenth century the Dominican church of St Peter.
