The Station’s of the Cross were constructed during World War II and were named as the Monumental Calvary. The project was organised by the archbishop Dr Alojz Stephinac and gave the pilgrims to Marija Bistrica additional places to pray. Four stations were erected in 1941 and then a further 11 were added in the 70s and 80s. All of the Stations carry a signature of the artists who were part of the Anthology of modern Croatian sculpture.
