The Sveti Petar u Sumi Benedictine monastery was first recorded in Latin documents in 1174, these documents state that the monastery had already stood there for fifty years and it is also mentioned in a legend relating to the Hungarian King Solomon. Unfortunately only one book from the monastery’s library has survived which is a Latin document written in the Caroline script. The monastery was destroyed in 1616 and was rebuilt in the seventeenth century by the Pauline Order.
