The Naval Cemetery in Pula is located in Stoja near the coast. It used to be known as the Austro-Hungarian cemetery and was opened by the Ministry of the Navy in 1862. It was renovated in 1990 in conjunction with the Austrian Red Cross and Germany. There have been roughly 150,000 people buried here over the years and these include casualties of the Baron Gautsch disaster and crews from Szent Istvan and Viribus battle ships. The cemetery is a protected monument.
