On the eastern side of Solin is the remnants of a town gate that is thought to date from the first century. The gate used to be named Porta Caesarea. The gate originally had a water duct running over it to serve water to the rest of the town. Nearby monument inscriptions document the soldiers passing through. The gate was first excavated by F. Carrara in 1846 and again by Frane Bulic in 1906.
