The Umag museum was founded in 2000. Its main departments are: archaeology, cultural history, restoration and pedagogical. The museum is situated within the medieval walls inside a thirteenth to fourteenth century defensive tower that was converted for the museum. The tower is divided into three levels and connected by a staircase. The first two floors are for temporary exhibitions and the tops floor is devoted to a collection about the local waters around Umag.
