Zagreb’s botanical garden was founded in 1889 by Professor Heinz who was chair of Botany at Zagreb University. The botanical garden is preserved as a monument of horticultural architecture. The garden is 4.7 hectares and has a large arboretum. There are a number of plants grown in rock gardens as this is the norm for Croatian flora and Croatia also has a high growth of flora. The karstic rock is of particular note.
